MedTech Europe submission to ECHA public consultation: REACH Annex XV restriction report on Microplastics

Dear members,

We would like to ask for your urgent support regarding a public consultation on microplastics which will close next Friday, 20 September.

The consultation requests for input from stakeholders on the potential impact of a new REACH restriction proposal on microplastics. The current proposal would ban the use of all microplastics in IVDs, unless the microplastics are fully contained during the entire life cycle of the product, and any microplastics-containing waste is disposed of as hazardous waste.

We launched the online workshop at the first physical workshop in Cork yesterday. The workshop was very well attended and there was a lot of positive feedback from HSCP and service users present about the day and in particular how good it was to have some of our service users included. There was a lot of good discussion and plenty of ideas generated.

Effects of Brexit relating to Applications for Registration and Recognition at CORU

CORU has a policy of applying the same systems and processes for recognition of international qualifications, and for registration, to all applicants regardless of whether they are covered by relevant EU legislation or not.

For this reason, in the event of a disorderly withdrawal from the European Union by the United Kingdom, UK based or UK qualified applicants should not be significantly affected, although certain rights will be impacted.
