Cellular Pathology

The role of the advisory body is to organise a programme of meetings, seminars and workshops for members of the ACSLM supporting continual professional development, promoting the exchange of information between medical scientists in Histopathology and Cytopathology and keeping abreast of all relevant research and emerging developments in Histopathology and Cytopathology.

Clinical Chemistry

The Clinical Chemistry Advisory Body aims to support continuing professional development through the promotion of best practice and new developments within both clinical chemistry and inclusive of global health developments, guidelines and care delivery standards. The Advisory Body also seeks to promote a multidisciplinary, patient focused philosophy through collaboration with other Advisory bodies, clinical professionals and patient focus groups. The Advisory body organises a series of programmes including an annual lecture series and essay and multiple choice topics for the CPD programme.

Haematology

The Haematology advisory body (HAB), in common with the other advisory bodies, plays a vital role in the overall function of the Academy. The members of the body are based in hospitals throughout Ireland and organise programmes of one day meetings, seminars, training courses and national meeting lectures relevant to the field of laboratory haematology. They also research and prepare topics for the Continuous Professional Development programme. This work helps ensure that all the members are kept up to date with developments in their areas of expertise.

Immunology

The Immunology Advisory Body’s aim is to organise educational meetings, seminars and workshops on topics relevant to the field of laboratory immunology. We promote and support continuous professional development and through this new web-site aim to provide up to date information on new developments, interesting articles and guidelines for best practice. Also through the Forum section we aim to provide a platform for discussion and to exchange information with other interested parties.

Management, Quality, IT and Health and Safety

The Management, Quality, IT and Safety Advisory Body (MQISAB) aims to support members of the ACSLM at all levels of the profession in their quest to provide a safe, effective, quality, patient focused laboratory service. We aim to do this by organising meetings, seminars and workshops for members. The advisory body also supports continuing professional development through the provision of articles on topics of interest to members and MCQ’s for the CPD programme. We welcome feedback and suggestions from members on topics of interest to you.

Microbiology

The role of the Microbiology Advisory Body is to organise educational meetings, seminars and workshops on topics relevant to Microbiology. Our aim is to provide the latest information on new developments and guidelines for best practice. We also promote and support the Continuous Professional Development programme.

Molecular Diagnostics

The Molecular Diagnostics advisory body (MDAB) was formed in 2015 to keep the Academy and its members up to date with the rapid advances in the application of nucleic acid technologies to laboratory medicine. The members of the body are drawn from diverse disciplines where molecular technologies are having an impact. The MDAB will organise local and national meetings, courses, seminars and workshops to educate the ACSLM membership about advances in Molecular Diagnostics.

Point of Care Testing

The Point of Care Advisory Body has recently been established and is comprised of ACSLM members managing Point of Care services throughout the country. This Advisory Body will advise and inform on best practice, quality initiatives and International developments in the area of Point of Care testing and also represent the ACSLM on the National Point of Care Consultative Group. They will also research and prepare topics for the Continuous Professional Development programme.

Transfusion and Transplantation Science

The role of the Transfusion and Transplantation Science Advisory Body is to respond to national queries and advise council on Transfusion and Transplantation related matters that impact on a national level.

In addition, the aim of the body is to provide education, training and support to its members as a way of ensuring safe and effective practices within our discipline. It encourages and promotes research and innovation in order to support the development of the science.

Virology

The function of our Advisory Body is multi-fold. Essentially to provide education, clinical and diagnostic advice, by open forum and discussion to all interested parties, on all aspects of clinical and diagnostic virology. We promote and support continuous professional development and exchange of information between practising medical scientists. Through this new section of our website we aim to provide a useful platform to accommodate our role.
